Multi-channel heat transfer in molecular crystals and their solutions (Review article)

A comprehensive analysis of isochoric thermal conductivity data was performed for rare gas solids Ne, Ar, Kr, and Xe, molecular crystals using the example of CO2 and N2O and solid solutions Kr/Xe, Kr/CH4, and CO2/Xe in the temperature range of the order of and above the Debye temperature (T ≥ θD). The description was carried out within the framework of advanced concepts of multi-channel heat transfer in solids with low thermal conductivity. The results demonstrate that the three-channel heat transfer model effectively accounts for both deviations from the 1/T dependence at T ≥ θD and the increase in thermal conductivity with temperature in dynamically orientationally disordered phases of molecular crystals and their solutions. Furthermore, the Bridgman coefficient, which characterizes the relationship between thermal conductivity and density, was found to be governed by the interplay among different heat transfer channels.
