Optimal Dispatch for a Grid-Connected Microgrid with Renewable and Conventional Sources
This paper presents an optimal dispatch strategy for a grid-connected microgrid that integrates renewable energy sources—such as wind and Photovoltaic (PV) systems—with Conventional Diesel Generators (CDGs). The objective is to minimize the overall operational cost, which includes both fuel consumption and power transaction expenses with the main grid, while ensuring reliability and sustainability of power supply. A mathematical model is formulated to capture the dynamics of various energy sources, load demand, and power transactions, incorporating relevant operational constraints. To efficiently solve the complex optimization problem, the Symbiotic Organisms Search (SOS) algorithm is employed after that compared the result with Particle Swarm optimization (PSO) technique. Results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed strategy in significantly reducing operational costs and fuel consumption. Furthermore, the model enhances grid stability through Customer Power Interruptibility (CPI) and optimizes electricity trade using Locational Marginal Price (LMPs). The findings underscore the potential of this approach for promoting economic efficiency, reducing emissions, and supporting the adoption of clean energy in modern microgrid systems.
