Design and Implementation of a Grid-Connected System Using a Multilevel Inverter and DC-DC Boost Converter

The integration of photovoltaic (PV) arrays with grid-connected systems is critical to increasing renewable energy utilisation. This study describes the design and execution of a PV-based power system that includes a DC-DC boost converter with filtering and a three-phase multilevel inverter. The suggested system uses optimal PWM control techniques to provide effective power conversion and grid compatibility. A perturb and observe (P&O) technique is used to maximise power extraction from the PV array, which consists of 36 series-connected panels, each running under normal test circumstances (irradiance: 1000 W/m2, temperature: 25 °C). Simulation findings show that the DC-DC boost converter effectively increases the input voltage from 24V to 110V with a 95% efficiency. The multilevel inverter produces a well-regulated AC output with low harmonic distortion, resulting in smooth grid integration. Additionally, switching frequency optimisation at 50 kHz improves the system's performance. The findings support the viability of integrating PV panels into the grid while maintaining consistent voltage and electricity quality. This study helps to design efficient and stable renewable energy systems for long-term power production.
