Scalable and Low-Power AHB to APB Bridge for Reconfigurable SOC Architectures

This paper presents a novel scalable and low-power Advanced High-performance Bus (AHB) to Advanced Peripheral Bus (APB) bridge design tailored for reconfigurable System-on-Chip (SoC) architectures. The proposed bridge overcomes the limitations of traditional designs by introducing dynamic protocol adaptation, configurable data widths, and enhanced power efficiency. Key innovations include a reconfigurable architecture that supports multiple APB peripherals while minimizing latency and power consumption. The bridge achieves a power efficiency of 30MB/s/W, significantly outperforming traditional designs with 8MB/s/W. Additionally, the proposed bridge reduces conversion latency by 60%, enhances bandwidth scalability to 300 MB/s, and achieves a 50% reduction in physical area. This scalable design is optimized for modern applications such as IoT devices, edge computing, and wearable electronics, where power, bandwidth, and area constraints are critical. By incorporating features such as dynamic protocol adaptation and multi-device support, the proposed bridge ensures seamless communication between AHB and APB domains while offering low-power operation. The results demonstrate the effectiveness of this design in addressing the challenges of next-generation SoC architectures, setting a new standard for efficiency and scalability in bus bridging solutions.
