Optimal Energy Storage Configuration for Reducing Renewable Energy Curtailment Based on Second-Order Cone Programming
The installed capacity of renewable energy generation has increased rapidly. However, its power generation has significant volatility and intermittence, which poses challenges to grid consumption. To enhance the integration rate of renewable energy and mitigate curtailments, this paper proposes a method for energy storage system (ESS) sizing within an Active Distribution Network (ADN) encompassing wind power, photovoltaic (PV) power, diesel generators, and energy storage. Firstly, mathematical models for the wind power generation, PV generation, diesel generators, and ESS within the ADN are established. Then, an optimal ESS sizing model considering the cost of wind and solar curtailment is formulated. Finally, simulation cases were conducted, and the results demonstrated the effectiveness of the proposed method.
