Soft-Switching Three-Level Inverter for High-Efficiency Grid-Tied Photovoltaic Applications

In this paper, the design and analysis of a high-efficiency DC-DC boost converter that is designed for use in applications involving renewable energy are outlined. These applications include photovoltaic (PV) systems, fuel cells, and battery energy storage systems (BESS). The fundamental aim is to find ways to maximise the efficiency of power conversion while simultaneously preserving voltage and current stability. The maximum power point tracking (MPPT) algorithm is used by the converter in order to maximise the amount of energy that can be extracted from the photovoltaic system under a variety of different climatic situations. MATLAB/Simulink is used to develop the simulation model, which is then used to investigate a number of performance measures, including voltage gain, output power, current ripple, and total harmonic distortion (THD). The boost converter elevates the input DC voltage to provide a stable DC bus, which may then be used for many applications, including grid integration and electric vehicle (EV) charging stations. The simulation findings indicate a significant improvement in voltage regulation and power efficiency, yielding an output voltage of 400V from an input range of 24V-48V with little losses. Current and power waveforms are examined for stability and efficiency. The stability of power output is shown with minimal fluctuations, and the THD analysis of the output voltage and current is used to evaluate the converter’s power quality. The findings indicate that the THD remains under 3%, hence satisfying IEEE standards for power electronics applications. A comparative analysis of several duty cycle modifications is conducted to improve the switching strategy, reducing losses and enhancing transient performance. The proposed converter has an efficiency of 95%, making it a suitable choice for renewable energy applications.
