Power Management System for a DC Micro-Grid with Solar PV System and Battery Storage
This work entails the design and analysis of a low-voltage DC microgrid system with a solar photovoltaic (PV) arrangement, backed by a battery, to provide constant DC voltage for standalone applications. The proposed system implements the Perturb and Observe (P&O) method for Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) to assure efficient energy capture by the PV system. The control governs the steady DC voltage inside the microgrid whereas, in case of insufficient solar generation to satisfy the load demand, the battery provides the energy. Integration of renewable power increases sustainability and independence to central networks making this system a good fit for applications with minimum or intermittent energy demands. The proposed scheme has been simulated using MATLAB, confirming the stable voltage under varying solar irradiation and loads. It suggests the most effective, economical, and reliable solution for the seamless supply of power at remote locations or off-grid sites.
