Fusion Rule-Based Spectrum Prediction and Monitoring for Efficient Spectrum Switching in CR Networks
Cognitive radio is a vital technology that permits the unlicensed or cognitive users to strategically access the available licensed radio spectrum. Further spectrum mobility is the process in which cognitive user has to vacant the licensed channel on the arrival or emergence of primary user and switch its communication to another idle licensed channel. In this context, there are two methods namely spectrum prediction and spectrum monitoring are utilized to detect the emergence of primary user while cognitive user transmission. Therefore to improve the performance of cognitive radio network, in this article we employed both spectrum monitoring and spectrum prediction to identify the emergence or appearance of primary user during data transmission interval. However, in our proposed system, the results of spectrum monitoring and spectrum prediction are combined or fused together using AND and OR fusion rules. Further, the closed-form of expression for different parameters i.e. data loss, resource wastage and interference power to primary user are derived for AND and OR fusion rules and also compared with earlier reported literature.
