Analysis of High Step-down Interleaved DC-DC Converter with Fault-tolerant Capability for Battery Charging Applications

This paper presents an analysis of a high step-down interleaved DC-DC converter with fault-tolerant capability for battery charging applications that can operate safely without redundant components in case any short-circuit fault occurs in any of the switches. The phase shift of the healthy legs is dynamically adjusted using a fault diagnosis technique and a phase shift selector to reduce ripple in the output voltage and current and also increase the control range of other healthy switches. Matlab/Simulink is used to simulate and analyze short-circuit faults in the converter. The simulation results highlight that the converter can operate during short-circuit faults in any of the switches and charge the battery.
