Research on Advanced Modular De-icing Technology for 500-kV Transmission Lines
With the intensification of global climate anomalies, the impact of transmission line icing on grid security and stability has become increasingly severe. Mobile DC de-icing devices have achieved mature application in transmission lines at 220 kV and below. However, when confronted with 500-kV transmission lines characterized by longer spans, larger conductor cross-sections, and multi-bundle configurations, existing mobile DC de-icing units fail to meet the demanding current, voltage, and capacity requirements for effective ice mitigation. This paper demonstrates the necessity of researching mobile DC de-icing solutions for 500kV grids and proposes several modular mobile de-icing topologies addressing critical implementation challenges. Comparative analysis reveals that the parallel operation topology outperforms others in 500-kV de-icing scenarios. These findings provide crucial technical support for implementing mobile de-icing on 500-kV transmission networks.
