The Increasingly Important Role of Optical in Communication, Datacenter, and Now AI/ML Interconnect Networks, and the Related IEEE ComSoc Activities
Optical networks, systems, and interconnects have been foundational to global communication and data-center infrastructures. They are also one of the most active areas of research and development for the new Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning (AI/ML) computational cluster interconnect networks. In this month's column, Loukas Paraschis, Vijay Vusirikala, and Elaine Wong summarize recent related industry and academic efforts, with particular emphasis on related activities by the IEEE Communication Society (ComSoc).
