Abstract

These are lecture notes for a mini-course given in Banff in June 2024. They discuss the problem of bounding the number of <mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"><mml:mi>δ</mml:mi></mml:math> <i>-incidences</i> <mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"> <mml:mrow><mml:msub><mml:mi>I</mml:mi> <mml:mi>δ</mml:mi></mml:msub> <mml:mrow><mml:mo>(</mml:mo> <mml:mi>P</mml:mi> <mml:mo>,</mml:mo> <mml:mi>L</mml:mi> <mml:mo>)</mml:mo></mml:mrow> <mml:mo>:</mml:mo> <mml:mo>=</mml:mo> <mml:mrow><mml:mo>{</mml:mo> <mml:mrow><mml:mo>(</mml:mo> <mml:mi>p</mml:mi> <mml:mo>,</mml:mo> <mml:mi>ℓ</mml:mi> <mml:mo>)</mml:mo></mml:mrow> <mml:mo>∈</mml:mo> <mml:mi>P</mml:mi> <mml:mo>×</mml:mo> <mml:mi>L</mml:mi> <mml:mo>:</mml:mo> <mml:mi>p</mml:mi> <mml:mo>∈</mml:mo> <mml:msub><mml:mrow><mml:mo>[</mml:mo> <mml:mi>ℓ</mml:mi> <mml:mo>]</mml:mo></mml:mrow> <mml:mi>δ</mml:mi></mml:msub> <mml:mo>}</mml:mo></mml:mrow> </mml:mrow> </mml:math> under various hypotheses on <mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"><mml:mrow><mml:mi>P</mml:mi> <mml:mo>⊂</mml:mo> <mml:msup><mml:mrow><mml:mi>R</mml:mi></mml:mrow> <mml:mn>2</mml:mn></mml:msup> </mml:mrow> </mml:math> and <mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"><mml:mrow><mml:mi>L</mml:mi> <mml:mo>⊂</mml:mo> <mml:mi>A</mml:mi> <mml:mo>(</mml:mo> <mml:mn>2</mml:mn> <mml:mo>,</mml:mo> <mml:mn>1</mml:mn> <mml:mo>)</mml:mo></mml:mrow> </mml:math> .
