The Effect of Sensorimotor Psychotherapy Group Program on Secondary Traumatic Stress, Burn-out, and Self-care of Counselors
The purpose of this study was to verify the effects of a sensorimotor psychotherapy group program on counselors' secondary traumatic stress, psychological burnout, and self-care. For this, 26 counselors from City U and its surrounding areas were randomly assigned to an experimental and a waiting-list control group (13 each), and a sensory-motor psychotherapy group program was implemented. Data on secondary traumatic stress, psychological burnout, and self-care were collected from the experimental and the waiting-list control group at pre-, post-, and follow-up points. The collected data were analyzed using an independent samples t-test and mixed design analysis of variance by SPSSWIN 26.0. The results showed that the experimental group that underwent the sensorimotor psychotherapy group program showed a significant effect on the post-test scores and subsequent scores compared to the waitlist control group in terms of secondary traumatic stress, psychological burnout, and self-care. The discussions and suggestions for follow-up research were presented.
