Safety Distance Calculation and Analysis for Solid Rocket Motor Static Firing Test

This study quantitatively assessed the risks of solid rocket motor firing tests by calculating and analyzing safety distances. For HD 1.3, the safety distances for ILD were 28% to 65% shorter, and those for PTRD and IBD were 61% and 76% shorter, respectively, compared to HD 1.1.Both D max and D min , the international launch site safety standards, were found to be longer than the calculated safety distances for both HD 1.3 and HD 1.1.Damage assessments based on safety distances indicated that there were no fatalities among personnel for either HD 1.3 or HD 1.1, although risks of eardrum rupture were identified. No injuries or fatalities occurred at D max and D min distances. However, glass windows in the test facilities showed critical vulnerability at all safety distances for both HD 1.3 and HD 1.1, including D min . .HD 1.3 HD 1.1 ILD 28% 65%, PTRD IBD 61% 76% .
