The entry of Montenegro into the international community (1878). The reforms of the state apparatus and the establishment of its own monetary system
With the international recognition gained at the Berlin Congress in 1878, Montenegro received all the attributes of a sovereign state and equal legal status with other members of the international community. This also meant the acquisition of all basic rights regarding an internationally recognized entity. One such right, acquired upon its international recognition, meant that Montenegro was able to establish its own monetary system and introduce its own currency, leading to the new prospects for country’s emancipation from foreign influence.
