Effect of Sb 2 S 3 doping on the characteristics of pure titanium micro‐arc oxidation coatings

Abstract Scanning electron microscopy, X‐ray diffractometry, X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and electrochemical workstations were used to study the effects of Sb 2 S 3 addition on the surface morphology, phase compositions, and corrosion resistance of pure titanium micro‐arc oxidation ceramic films. The results showed that the addition of an appropriate amount of Sb 2 S 3 could increase the micro‐arc oxidation voltage, improve the micro‐morphology of the micro‐arc oxidation coating surface, reduce the surface roughness, improve the transfer efficiency between matrix Ti 4+ and OH in the electrolyte, promote the film‐forming reaction, and increase the thickness of the prepared coating. During the micro‐arc oxidation process, the Sb element in the form of Sb 2 O 3 entered the coating and combined with anatase TiO 2 , rutile TiO 2 , and other hard phases to enhance the hardness of the coating. The addition of an appropriate amount of Sb 2 S 3 could reduce the self‐corrosion current density of the coating and effectively improve the corrosion resistance of the coating, and the self‐corrosion rate of the coating reached a minimum of 1.253 × 10 −2 mpy when the amount of Sb 2 S 3 added was 4g/L, and the corrosion resistance of the micro‐arc oxidation coating was the best at this concentration.
