Art Education as a Tool for Multidisciplinary and Experiential Learning: Reflections on NEP 2020

The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 of India emphasizes holistic, multidisciplinary, and experiential learning as a core vision for 21st-century education. Art education, with its creative, aesthetic, and participatory dimensions, plays a crucial role in bridging diverse disciplines and fostering experiential understanding. This paper explores art education as a tool for interdisciplinary integration, highlighting its role in promoting creativity, problem-solving, and cultural rootedness in line with NEP 2020. Drawing from relevant literature, the study examines how art education supports cognitive, emotional, and social development, while encouraging collaborative and project-based learning. The paper argues that art education should not be viewed as an extracurricular activity but as a central pedagogical approach to achieve the NEP’s vision of holistic learning.
