IoT Based Energy Efficient Anti-Sprouting by Ethylene Removal and Tuber Moth Repellent System in Household Potato Cold Storage
Potatoes are highly in demand and a popular consumable crop suitable for the large population of India that brings taste along with nutrition and calories at a relatively low cost. In households, preserving potatoes and high ethylene producers like tomatoes, brinjal, etc., in a storage area inhibits early sprouting. Digestive issues have been created due to sprouted potatoes containing various toxic compounds like solanine and chaconine. On the other hand, the Potato Tuber Moth (Phthorimaea Operculella) harms potato tubers by creating tunnels that cause spoilage and make potatoes unhealthy for consumption while keeping with comparatively high-moisture vegetables. It is necessary to remove ethylene gas from the storage and destroy Potato Tuber Moth by applying insect repellent compounds. We are focusing on a) an automatic K<inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">2</inf>MnO<inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">4</inf> (effective ethylene absorber) vaporizing system instead of spreading huge amounts of porous substrates like alumina beads and silica gel manually while ethylene concentration becomes high. b) Dynamic adjustment of cooling intensity and maintaining the required temperature inside the storage prevents unwanted electricity consumption and c) automatic distribution of a natural potato tuber moth killer named diatomaceous earth instead of chemical repellents. Applying IoT creates location independence for analyzing and monitoring this system.
