Implementation of MRAS Speed and Position Estimator for Sensorless PMSM Drive

This paper proposes an electromagnetic torque-based MRAS (Model Reference Adaptive System) speed and position estimator for sensorless PMSM drive. MRAS is an adaptive control technique used to achieve desired performance by continuously comparing the output of the actual system to a reference model. The proposed estimator compares instantaneous and estimated electromagnetic torque. The conventional PI controller-based FOC increases the overshoot in the rotor speed. To enhance the system’s responses and minimize overshoot, the PDF (Pseudo Derivative Feedback) controller is used rather than the PI controller. It works faster than the system based on PI controller and eliminates overshoot.A wide range of rotor speeds are used for the performance study. MATLAB/Simulink is used to carry out the simulations.
