IOT based Smart Bird Repellent
The Smart Bird Repellent System utilizing IoT technology is designed to prevent crop damage caused by birds. The system incorporates an IoT-based framework that efficiently deters birds from agricultural fields. It employs a NodeMCU microcontroller paired with a PIR sensor to detect bird movement and activate mechanical hand flapping and a buzzer to scare them off. Additionally, a sprinkler system is integrated, serving the dual purpose of deterring birds and providing irrigation to the crops. The system operates autonomously and can also be manually controlled via a mobile application. Testing under varying weather conditions and at different times of the day demonstrates that the system is a resource-efficient, scalable, and sustainable solution for crop protection. PIR sensors used in motion detection exhibit an average accuracy of 85-90% within a range of 5-7 meters and a detection angle of approximately 110-120 degrees. Birds are responsible for crop losses ranging from 5% to 30% annually, costing farmers in the U.S. around $189 million each year. Buzzers emitting sound frequencies between 2,000 to 5,000 Hz have been found effective in repelling birds.
