Underground Cable Fault Detection and Monitoring System

In modern utility management, the reliability of underground cable systems is essential for uninterrupted power distribution. However, these systems are vulnerable to faults from environmental conditions, material wear, and accidental damage. Detecting and diagnosing faults can be challenging, as traditional manual inspection methods are often time-consuming and inefficient. This paper presents an underground cable fault detection and monitoring system combining hardware and IoT capabilities. The system utilizes an Arduino Uno microcontroller, GPS NEO 6M module, NodeMCU, and LCD display for real-time feedback. Three series of switches represent cable lines; when a fault is detected (simulated by pressing a switch), an alert is displayed, and the GPS fault location is transmitted to the Arduino Cloud application. This approach can significantly reduce repair times and costs in underground cable networks. The paper details the system architecture, design methodology, and potential applications, highlighting the promise of IoT in enhancing electrical infrastructure reliability
