Numerical Investigation of Double Absorber Layer Thin Film Solar Cell Performance with Cadmium Sulfide as Buffer Layer

In this work, A dual absorber layer solar cell using Cadmium Sulfide (CdS) as buffer layer, is examined by altering the thickness and acceptor concentrations of absorber layers and interface defects of upper and lower absorber layers and of lower absorber layer and CdS buffer layer. The absorbing layer materials inserted in the structure are MoS<inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">2</inf> and WS<inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">2</inf>. Abstract

For the simulation of the device under study, the SCAPS-1D simulation tool is used, and it is found that the highest efficiency of 27.15% is observed with V<inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">OC</inf>, fill factor, and J<inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">SC</inf> of 0.9575 V, 86.47%, and 32.80 mA/cm2, respectively. This result provides a notable recommendation for the fabrication of highly efficient thin film solar cells.
