Design of a Multi-Circular Monopole Antenna Using Impedance Bandwidth Cut-off Frequency

This work presents a discussion on the design of a multi-circular planar monopole antenna from its -10dB impedance bandwidth lower cut-off frequency (IBLCF). Initially, a single circular planar monopole antenna (CPMA) is designed using a mathematical analysis for -10dB IBLCF of 3 GHz. Then, the similar mathematical approach is followed to design three and six circular planar monopole antennas. For the proposed PMAs, 3GHz is considered to be the theoretical -10dB IBLCF for appropriate comparison while simulated values for the single, three and six-circular planar monopole antennas are found to be 2.7, 3.01 and 3.1 GHz, respectively. The six-circular monopole antenna is fabricated and results are verified with the simulation. A good match is identified between simulation and measurement.
