Investigating MW and μW Slots on a Microstrip Patch Antenna
In this paper, two low-profile, multi-band and linearly polarized rectangular microstrip patch antennas with MW and μW- shaped slot design are introduced. The antenna uses an inset fed microstrip line along the straight feeding location. The original patch has the first resonance at 2.44 GHz and higher order resonances at 4.6 GHz, 6.305 GHz, 6.93 GHz and 7.394 GHz respectively. The MW-shaped slot has the first resonance at 3.7 GHz and higher order resonances at 4.76 GHz, 7.16 GHz, 7.32 GHz, 7.71 GHz and the μ W-shaped slot has the first resonance at 4.4GHz and higher order resonances at 5.95 GHz, 7.27 GHz, 7.68 GHz. The addition of both the MW-shaped slot and the μW-shaped slot leads to increased -10 dB S11 bandwidth with respect to the higher order resonances. The antenna can radiate in both xz and yz planes. The gains obtained are 4.492 dB at 3.7 GHz, 3.342 dB at 4.76 GHz, 5.234 dB at 7.16 GHz, 5.5 dB at 7.32 GHz, 7.262 dB at 7.71 GHz for MW slot and 6.275 dB at 4.4 GHz, 6.79 dB at 5.95 GHz, 5.296 dB at 7.27 GHz, 5.446 dB at 7.68 GHz for μW slot respectively.
