Gesture Based Live Mouse Control
Human-computer interaction has evolved substantially since the introduction of the personal computer, with the mouse leading the way. When wired, wireless, or Bluetooth mice are used, they require additional equipment like batteries and dongles, making them inconvenient and limiting portability. In order to solve these restrictions, this project proposes a Virtual Mouse system that directs the cursor with hand movements and computer vision techniques, eliminating the need for physical hardware. To detect hand movements for mouse tasks such as clicking, dragging, and scrolling, the system utilizes a simple webcam as well as the OpenCV and MediaPipe Python libraries. This approach provides an intuitive, cost-effective, and user-friendly alternative, making it compatible for environments where typical input devices are impractical, such as undersea expeditions, manufacturing plants, and space stations. While lighting circumstances might affect performance, the system demonstrates good accuracy and responsiveness under ideal conditions.
