Power Quality Improvement Using Active Power Filter
This paper focused on to improve power quality by decreasing losses, with a particular emphasis on harmonics. Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) is a major indicator of harmonic presence, and numerous ways can be used to reduce it. One viable technique is Active Power Filter (APF). MATLAB simulations were performed on a three phase and single-phase distribution source connected to non-linear loads, indicating that using an APF greatly reduced harmonics. A PI-based shunt Active Power Filter was also simulated, and its effectiveness was demonstrated by lowering Total Harmonic Distortion from 25.24% to 9.40%. The results reveal that the PI controller-based shunt Active Power Filter improves power quality by reducing harmonics and reactive current, resulting in a sinusoidal load current that is in phase with the supply voltage.
