PSO MPPT-Based PV System with a Multipurpose DC-DC Converter for HVDC Applications
The objective of this work is to implement a highly adaptable multifunctional DC-DC power converter topology for high-voltage direct current (HVDC) power grid applications. The proposed DC-DC converter is versatile and facilitates performing multiple power conversion tasks. While utilizing the combination of direct partial power transmission and non-AC energy balancing, a minimum number of power electrical components and capacitors are needed to perform the higher DC-DC power conversion. This resulting in significant gains in efficiency and a reduction in overall system size of the converter topology. To obtain peak power output, the system integrates with particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) MPPT mechanism based solar-PV system. The PSO algorithm continuously adjusts the operating conditions of the solar panels, ensuring they operate at maximum efficiency irrespective of its intermittent atmospheric scenarios. To analyze the efficacy of the developed DC-DC converter and PSO based MPPT algorithm for PV-systems simulation results are conducted in MATLAB environments. From the simulation outcomes it is justified that the proposed control approach is more efficient and well applicable for integration of renewable energy sources (RES) into HVDC grids.
