Performance Evaluation of Sliding Mode Controller in PMSM Speed Regulation System
This paper presents a simulation based performance comparison of speed control strategies for Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) drives. The study focuses on evaluating the effectiveness of a Sliding-Mode Controller (SMC) employing the New Sliding-Mode Reaching Law (NSMRL), as proposed in existing literature. The NSMRL enhances the traditional sliding-mode approach by incorporating a nonlinear reaching law that varies with the system state and sliding surface, aiming to achieve faster convergence and reduced chattering. The control scheme is implemented and tested in a MATLAB/Simulink environment and compared against the conventional Field-Oriented Control (FOC) method. Performance parameters such as peak time, settling time, overshoot, speed and torque ripples are observed and analyzed. Simulation results indicate that the NSMRL-based SMC provides improved dynamic performance and smoother steady-state characteristics compared to FOC. This work supports the applicability of the NSMRL-based control scheme for PMSM speed regulation under ideal simulation conditions.
