Next Generation VLC: Intelligent Innovation for Rapid Data Transfer

The need for higher capacity and more reliable connectivity to support emerging applications motivates the evolution towards 6G technologies. Today’s wireless communication systems, specifically employing traditional radio frequency (RF) bands, are increasingly challenged by spectrum availability limitations and interference in highly populated areas. Visible Light Communication (VLC), can be a viable alternative since it takes advantage of the unlicensed frequency range of 400-800 THz. Nevertheless, VLC systems pose major issues in indoor scenarios like signal blockage by objects such as walls, furniture, or human bodies that could significantly affect communication quality. This project offers a solution to these problems by suggesting integration between VLC technology and Intelligent Reflective Surfaces (IRS). IRS modifies wireless channels intelligently through signaling reflection and direction, resulting in reduced hindrance from obstacles as well as improved depend-ability of VLC systems. The project aims at designing, optimizing, and evaluating an IRS-assisted high-speed indoor communication system capable of providing reliable data transmission in various types of indoor environments. In practice, the proposed solution significantly improves indoor connectivity, user experience, and energy efficiency while offering an affordable alternative to traditional RF-based communication systems.
