A Multiport Bidirectional DC-DC Converter For Electric Vehicle Applications

For EV applications, different power electronic converters are used to propel motor drive system. Conventionally single port converters are used in this place. But multiport converters offers a cutting-edge way to include several energy sources, including solar panels and batteries, into the EV power system. In recent times, converters are made by combining one or more single port converters. The converter discussed in this paper is a single multiport converter with reduced switch count. It effectively distributes energy across two input and two output ports, enabling simultaneous buck (step-down) and boost (step-up) functions. Additionally, it provides bidirectional power flow, which makes regenerative braking and battery charging possible, improving electric vehicles total energy efficiency and range. It is possible to accommodate energy sources with varying current and voltage characteristics. The MATLAB Simulink platform is used to simulate and study the converter’s continuous conduction mode (CCM) operation. The converter’s performance is confirmed by simulation, which show steady operation in a range of conditions.
