Triply Periodic Minimal Surfaces for Antenna Applications: A Novel Approach to Lightweight and High-Performance Structures
This work explores the application of triply periodic minimal surfaces (TPMSs), particularly gyroid structures, in electromagnetic devices. We present the design, fabrication, and experimental characterization of a cylindrical Luneburg lens com-posed of gyroid unit cells. Such lenses are promising for beam-scanning applications due to their gradient-index (GRIN) properties enabled by the subwave-length TPMS geometry. The proposed lens is manufactured using additive techniques and evaluated for its beamforming capabilities, demonstrating the potential of 3D-printed gyroid-based structures for high-performance microwave systems.
