Investigating Two Different Slot Sequences on a Microstrip Patch Antenna
In this paper, two low-profile, multi-band and linearly polarized rectangular microstrip patch antennas with IEM and UEM shaped slot design cut at the centre is introduced. The antenna uses an insetfed microstrip line along the straight feeding location. The original patch has the first resonance at 2.45 GHz and higher order resonances at 4.6 GHz and 4.88 GHz. The IEM- shaped slot has first resonance at 2.9 GHz and higher order resonances at 3.52 GHz, 4.97 GHz, 5.32 GHz, 5.62 GHz and the UEM-shaped slot has first resonance at 1.32 GHz and higher order resonances at 2.12 GHZ, 2.6 GHz and 4.36 GHz. The addition of the IEM-shaped slot leads to a frequency right shift with respect to the higher order resonance and the addition of the UEM-shaped slot leads to left shift with respect to the higher order resonance. The antenna can radiate in both xz and yz planes. The gains obtained are 2.525 dB, 5.554 dB, 6.014 dB at 4.97 GHz, 5.32 GHz, 5.62 GHz of the IEM-shaped slot and 1.358 dB, 3.503 dB at 2.6 GHz, 4.36 GHz of the UEM-shaped slot respectively.
