Design and Simulation of Conical Corrugated Horn Antenna for C-Band HPM Applications

High-power microwave antenna is of great interest in defence applications for radiating high frequency and high-power electromagnetic fields. Here, we discuss a simulation study of a conical corrugated horn antenna over C-band for a desired output power of 200MW. Such a horn antenna is more efficient than the conventional one due to its internal corrugation surface. As this surface is the combination of slot and teeth, a small change in the internal teeth edge affects the gain, side lobes and cross polar level. We design, model, and simulate the proposed antenna using Computer Simulation Technology software. The simulation results show a gain of 20.9dBi with a voltage standing wave ratio of 1.001. The return loss of the antenna is -65.67dB. Moreover, significantly less values of cross-polarization (below -25dB) and side lobe level (below -30dB) are obtained in the simulation. Our results provide the path for exploring corrugated horn antenna over other higher-frequency bands.
