VO2-Based Optical Radiators: A Key Enabler for Thermal Stability in Wireless and Space Communications

Efficient thermal management is crucial for high-frequency wireless and space communication systems. This study examines VO<inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">2</inf>-based optical radiators on Si, Ge, GaAs, and SiC using COMSOL simulations at 300K and 373K. At 300K, emittance ranges 0.6–0.8, with reflectance 0.2–0.4. At 373K, VO<inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">2</inf>’s phase transition lowers emittance and increases reflectance, enabling dynamic thermal regulation. These findings align with prior studies, confirming VO<inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">2</inf>’s effectiveness in modulating infrared radiation. This adaptive smart radiator technology enhances thermal control, signal integrity, and energy efficiency, making it ideal for RF, satellite, and solar-powered communication systems
