Performance Evaluation of Intelligent Reflecting Surface-Assisted Communication System Utilizing Dual Diversity with Selection Combining

Intelligent Reflecting Surface (IRS)-assisted wireless communication has emerged as a promising technology to enhance signal quality and spectral efficiency in next-generation networks. This paper evaluates the performance of an IRS-assisted system employing dual diversity with selection combining (SC) to optimize signal reception. The study analyzes the key performance of channel capacity under varying IRS placement distances between the transmitter and receiver in different channel conditions. The proposed model leverages IRS-induced dual diversity and SC at the receiver to improve channel capacity. Mathematical derivations and simulations demonstrate significant performance gains compared to conventional non-IRS-assisted systems. The results indicate that IRS-assisted dual diversity with SC enhances system robustness and dynamically selects the best transmission path, making it a viable solution for improving wireless communication in challenging environments.
