Comparative Study of Coding Capacity Techniques for Chipless RFID Tags
Radiofrequency identification (RFID) technology has been gaining traction in various industries for its applications in identification and tracking. Lately, there has been a growing interest in chipless RFID tags due to their cost-effectiveness and wide-ranging utility. Among the innovations in this domain, high coding capacity chipless RFID tags are emerging as promising solutions for future devices. For the commercialization of chipless tags, a high coding capacity and read range are a must. The objective of this paper is to investigate the efficiency of two existing coding techniques of chipless RFID tags. The research delves into using a hexagonal shape and a pentagonal tag to achieve high coding capacity properties in the tag. The design of the chipless RFID tag employs resonator patterns on a 0.15 mm-thick FR-4 substrate with an overall size of 21mmx21mm and 18mmx18mm, respectively, for hexagonal-shaped and hybrid tags.
