Design of Wide Bandwidth Planar Antenna for K Band Application
Microstrip patch antennas, also known as printed antennas, consist of transmission lines and radiators that are etched onto an insulating material. The radiating element, which is typically flat, can take various shapes based on the design. In this case, the antenna is specifically designed for K-band applications. This paper introduces a compact rectangular-shaped patch antenna, resonating at 18.52 GHz, which makes it ideal for 5G, satellite communications and vehicular speed detection. This antenna is built on a FR4 substrate, with a total size of 18 × 21 mm and the substrate height of 1.6 mm. Because of its small size and wide bandwidth, this antenna is perfect for use in high resolution radar and weather monitoring.
