Triple-Resonant Microstrip Antenna for C and X Band Wireless Systems

The following study details the design and analysis of a multi-band microstrip patch antenna optimized for compactness and intended for C and X-band wireless applications. As the need for high-performance communication systems, particularly in satellite, radar, and high-speed wireless networks, is on the rise, multi-band antennas are important. The antenna that has been proposed is intended to work effectively at several frequencies of resonance in the C-band and X-band ranges, which makes it ideal for use in fields of study including satellite communications, weather monitoring, and air-based radar systems. The antenna is mounted on a commercially available FR4 substrate that is flame retardant and has dimensions of 25 × 25 × 1.3 mm3. The antenna resonates at 6.36 GHz, 10.17 GHz, and 11.58 GHz having good return loss values of –39.97 dB, –24.59 dB, and –24.48 dB respectively. All the simulations and designs have been performed with CST Microwave Studio software showing a satisfactory S-parameter performance, gain, and radiation efficiency in all the operating bands.
