Design and implementation of 5G microstrip patch antenna for wireless ECG monitoring

The integration of 5G networks with healthcare systems has revolutionized remote patient monitoring by offering ultra-reliability and low-latency communication. The antenna is optimally designed and implemented for an optimized 5G wireless ECG monitoring system with the aim of controlling cardiac rhythms and providing telemedicine applications. It uses electronic communication and information technologies to provide health care services over long distances. This includes virtual visits, consultations, and real-time monitoring, with ECG monitoring being a vital component. The proposed system employs a microstrip patch antenna with a square-shaped patch and a ground plane attached on the opposite side. In this age of 5G, patch antennas are being designed to monitor and alert health conditions in situations requiring hospital emergencies. However, previously reported wearable antennas are typically non-flexible, linearly polarized, and bulkier; thus, they are less suitable for wearable applications. Additionally, their performance degrades due to deformation when placed on the human body. In an attempt to solve these problems, this patch antenna proposes a compact antenna design of 70 × 70 mm and a thickness of 1.2 mm. This patch antenna is optimized for flexibility, compactness, and high performance, thus ensuring effective and reliable operation when worn on the human body. This innovative approach improves telemedicine capabilities by enabling real-time health tracking and improved patient care in the 5G era.
