Design and Implementation of Wireless Charging Coil For E-Vehicle

Fossil fuels are finite resource and India has plans to make a major shift to electric vehicles by 2030. Development of electric mobility and sustainable energy will result in new technologies that require electric vehicles that are low cost and fully autonomous. These attributes can be realized through wireless charging. An electric car is an automobile that uses an electric motor as its primary source of propulsion. Electric vehicles (EVs) use electrical energy which is stored in rechargeable batteries. Plug-in based electric vehicles are suffering due to two major obstacles-cost and range. In order to increase range, EVs are required to charge either quite frequently or to install a larger battery pack which results additional problems such cost and weight. However, the cruising range of EVs is currently limited due to the necessity of recharging their batteries periodically. Improving the battery’s power density and adopting advanced technologies such as plug-in hybrids and fuel cell vehicles and Wireless charging technology are among the approaches proposed for extending the cruising range. Hence, we analyze three coil designs with varying ferrite rod counts to determine the optimal configuration that balances power transfer efficiency and compliance with EV charging standards and the wireless power transfer has been evaluated using ANSYS Twin Builder.
