“Biodegradable Polyherbal Paper Soap As A Natural Antimicrobial Alternative”

Objective:The study aimed to formulate and evaluate polyherbal paper soap prepared from Azadirachta indica (Neem) and Ocimum sanctum (Tulsi) leaf extracts for their antimicrobial potential against Escherichia coli. Methods:Ethanolic extracts of Neem and Tulsi leaves were prepared and subjected to phytochemical screening for secondary metabolites. Antimicrobial activity was assessed by inoculating E. coli on nutrient agar plates and testing the extracts using the agar well diffusion method. Neem, Tulsi, and their 1:1 combination were incorporated into paper soap formulations, which were evaluated for their antibacterial effects compared with control. Results:Phytochemical analysis confirmed the presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, glycosides, tannins, and phenolic compounds. Neem extract showed greater inhibition of E. coli compared to Tulsi extract alone. When Neem and Tulsi extracts were combined in equal proportions, the antibacterial activity was enhanced, showing superior results compared to individual extracts and control groups. The prepared polyherbal paper soap demonstrated good antibacterial potential and stability. Conclusion:The study revealed that Neem and Tulsi leaf extracts possess significant antimicrobial activity, and their combination in polyherbal paper soap enhances the antibacterial effect against E. coli. Properly formulated and packaged herbal paper soaps can serve as eco-friendly, portable, and effective hygiene products for the management of bacterial skin infections.
