Ferrite Reduction in Wireless Power Transfer Pads for Automotive Applications
This paper investigates the weight and cost reduction of wireless power transfer (WPT) pads used in automotive applications to recharge the onboard battery of an electric vehicle (EV). To achieve this, the design focuses on reducing the ferrite in the pads. Different pad configurations are numerically investigated, and the results are used to define a ferrite reduction strategy while preserving WPT performance. Experimental prototypes of ferrite layers are presented.
