Construction and formation mechanism analysis of the Tianziling landslide geological disaster monitoring site in Jiu’an area, Lianzhou, Guangdong

In June 2022, a large-scale landslide occurred in Tianziling, Jiu’an area, Lianzhou, Guangdong Province (see Figure 1), causing an economic loss of 20 million yuan. (Qingyuan Municipal People’s Government, 2023) According to the Lianzhou City Gazette Lianzhou (2011), the shallow geology of the landslide area mainly consists of schist red soil, which has developed from Quaternary laterite parent material. This landslide serves as a typical example of red-layer landslides in hilly regions. To prevent future landslides and study the formation characteristics of such landslides, as well as for post-disaster monitoring and disaster analysis, our team collaborated with the Guangdong Provincial Department of Natural Resources and the Foshan Geological Bureau to establish a national environmental geological monitoring experimental site in Qingyuan Lianzhou, with the Lianzhou landslide as the main observation target.
