Características Epidemiológicas y Clínicas de los pacientes con EVC Isquémico o Hemorrágico no Traumático en Urgencias
Introduction: Cerebrovascular disease (CVD) is neurological damage that occurs when one of the brain’s blood vessels becomes obstructed by a clot (embolus or thrombus) or ruptures (hemorrhage), which prevents adequate cerebral blood flow. The study of stroke-related conditions has gained relevance in recent years due to their increasing incidence. Stroke is a condition that predominantly affects the adult and elderly population and constitutes one of the leading causes of mortality. Objective: To identify the epidemiological and clinical characteristics of patients with stroke, their progression, and the type of stroke in patients hospitalized in the Adult Emergency Department of the CAE. Materials and Methods: Clinical records, computer equipment, and basic diagnostic tools were used. A descriptive and cross-sectional study will be conducted based on the medical records of all male and female patients over 40 years of age admitted to the emergency department. Expected Results: Of the total number of stroke patients, 80% or more are expected to correspond to ischemic cerebral infarction and approximately 13% to intracerebral hemorrhages, with the remainder due to other causes. Female patients (58%) and those aged 61–70 years will predominate. An association of this disease with arterial hypertension, diabetes mellitus, ischemic heart disease, unhealthy dietary and lifestyle habits, alcoholism, and hyperlipidemia is anticipated.
