Reliability Optimization with Strategic Placements of Distributed Generation in Distribution Systems Accounting Network Reconfiguration

This research introduces a unique hybrid strategy for solving the optimization problem, combining the Andean condor algorithm (ACA) with chaotic particle swarm optimization (CPSO) for strategic placement of distributed generators (DGs) in optimized locations, enhancing the distribution network’s reliability and minimizing power loss. The study is mostly about placing distributed generation (DG) units in both nonsequential and sequential ways, with strategic network reconfiguration (NR) through the addition of [Formula: see text] buses and PQV buses that can be operated remotely. The proposed approach results in notable improvements in reliability indices and significant reductions in power loss. Standard bus systems validate the proposed methodology, revealing substantial reductions in real power losses, especially at the 33 and 69 test systems. This study not only evaluates reliability but also presents an effective NR topology for [Formula: see text]-PQV buses to design optimized systems with reduced losses and improve the voltage profile.
