Metformin for treating central centrifugal cicatricial alopecia: emerging evidence and mechanistic insights
This article explores the emerging evidence regarding the antifibrotic properties of metformin, particularly its potential in treating central centrifugal cicatricial alopecia (CCCA). While metformin is primarily used for managing type 2 diabetes, recent studies suggest it has the ability to modulate fibrosis by activating AMP-activated protein kinase, offering a potential treatment approach for CCCA. This review examines current evidence and mechanistic insights into the potential role of metformin in modifying the fibrotic processes in CCCA.
