Significant new bird records from Valmiki Tiger Reserve, Bihar, India

Surveys were conducted exclusively for birds in the Valmiki Tiger Reserve (VTR), Bihar, India, from 2021 to 2024, except in 2023. In total, four visits were made to document bird diversity, and the majority of these trips were in the winter months. The area holds many species that were reported from both eastern and western Himalayas, making it a unique place for migratory species and some that extended their ranges further from their previously known locations. A total of 230 species of birds were recorded by us from VTR, and here we only discuss 39 species of birds that we have recorded during our surveys but were not reported from VTR previously. We compared the list of birds sighted by us with two authentic published lists available for VTR. Our study is significant as the area holds a considerable number of bird species but lacks proper survey and documentation, as only a few birders visit the reserve.
