Dementia is a broad term that encompasses a variety of diseases and conditions impacting cognitive functions such as thinking, memory, reasoning, personality, mood, and behavior. The deterioration of mental capabilities disrupts daily life and activities. It is estimated that approximately 50% of individuals aged 85 and older are affected by dementia. Dementia signifies a reduction in mental function from a previously higher level, which is significant enough to hinder daily living. Ayurveda, as a foundational science, addresses the importance and responsibility of mental health in maintaining a healthy lifestyle. A proper understanding and enhanced appreciation of Ayurvedic philosophy yield social advantages for mental health. Smriti refers to the recollection of experiences that have been directly perceived, heard, or encountered in the past. When an individual struggles to comprehend or retain current events or experiences, this condition is termed smritivibhramsa, and Ayurvedic science provides various remedies aimed at enhancing memory. Goghrita Nasya involves the application of ghee (clarified butter) through the nasal passages. Acharya Charak stated that the practice of ksheer and ghrut is the most effective rasayana. This case study investigates the efficacy of Goghrita Nasya in managing smritivibhramsa.
