Three-Year Proficiency Trend Analysis in Science and Mathematics of Direct- entry Maritime Students: Basis to Pre-Baccalaureate Curriculum Enhancement for Maritime Program Preparedness

This study analyzed three-year trends (2022–2025) in science and mathematics proficiency among graduates of the Pre-Baccalaureate Maritime Specialization strand at St. Therese-MTC Colleges. Using a quantitative-descriptive research design, the study examined aptitude test scores from 96 purposively selected students who progressed directly to higher maritime education. Descriptive statistics (mean, standard deviation), the Kruskal-Wallis H test, and a simple moving average model were employed to identify patterns and significant differences across academic years. Results revealed that students consistently demonstrated a "Beginning" proficiency level in both subjects, with no statistically significant improvement over time. Moreover, scores showed a downward trend in proficiency. These findings underscore the need to enhance the current curriculum by integrating maritime-relevant STEM content to better prepare students for higher-level maritime programs.
