Espacio público y diversidad
In contemporary European societies, there is an increasing participation of minority religious denominations in the public sphere. In the case of Spain, one of the religious manifestations in the public space that has gained significant importance in recent years is the Orthodox Easter. The celebration held by the Romanian Orthodox Church is particularly noteworthy, as it is the most widespread Christian Orthodox denomination in terms of the number of adherents and parishes. This makes the celebration attract a large number of people. However, many of its parishes do not always manage to access public space to celebrate Easter according to established ritual practices due to obstacles sometimes encountered at municipal levels. Based on this, this article aims to conceptualize public space as a space for diversity, including religious diversity, and then to elucidate some of the most relevant meanings of Orthodox Easter and how these fit into Spanish society. This involves ethnographically examining how certain parishes celebrate it and the main difficulties they encounter in its practice.
